For over 20 years I have represented adoptive parents, birth parents and adoption agencies.  I have been involved in well over 1,500 adoptions.  Adoption practice is the majority of my work.  I am a member of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys; since 1989 I have authored the chapter on “adoption law” for the Washington State Bar Association’s Family Law Desk Book; and have chaired or co-chaired the past 5 WSBA Adoption Law CLE’s for my fellow attorneys.  I am blessed with a wonderful legal assistant, and we offer personalized and responsive service at competitive rates.

It is a privilege to practice in an area of law that helps create families that produces a win-win-win result for all concerned, in the midst of a very difficult situation.  I have come to see my role as a legal obstetrician.  There are always risks attendant to a birth, but the experienced obstetrician will help to minimize and to avoid risks where possible.

I am a Seattle based adoption attorney. I am an adoptive parent, so I am intimately familiar with the experiences you are having or soon will have. I have been committed to adoption since I was a child. My family visited South Korea and missionaries asked if we could deliver clothing and supplies to an orphanage we would soon pass by. I will never forget the faces of the beautiful children who were soon to be adopted. I was haunted by the faces of shy teenagers peeking from doorways; children whose hope of finding a forever family grew dimmer as they aged. I knew then that I would somehow be involved in adoption in my life. I went to law school with adoption law as a priority. I am committed to serving children who need families. I have served as a volunteer with Holt Orphanages in South Korea where I provided physical therapy and activity support to physically and mentally challenged infants, children, and adults whose chances of adoption are remote due to their disabilities.

In my legal practice, it is important to me to be collaborative and respectful of all parties involved, regardless of differing opinions. I enjoying teaming with other like minded professionals and recently served on the Board and as Co-Chair of the Family Law Practice Group of King County Collaborative Law, a group of attorneys, therapists, child specialists, and financial professionals committed to providing a non-litigious mode of resolving their disputes. My experience and training as a mediator and Guardian ad Litem allow me to continually practice objectivity and neutrality. Responsiveness is important to me and I like to keep clients well informed. I have a very hands-on approach with my adoption cases so that I can support my clients throughout the process. I can provide mediation, legal coaching and coaching, unbundled services such as communication agreement review, and full legal representation.
